Due to Covid-19 Pandemic Brownsea Base will not have a program for the summer of 2020.

What we are:

Brownsea Base is a water skills training program teaching youth Canoeing, Kayaking, and Sailing skills with emphasis on having FUN!

Who we are:

Brownsea Base is ran by dedicated Scouters form Kawartha Waterways and the surrounding area.

Who can Participate:

All youth who will be 11 years by the end of the current scouting year up to youth age 17 may register. Our program is open to Registered Scouting/ Guiding Youth, and the General Public.


Brownsea Base runs during the summer from June to August. Participants attend Tuesday and Thursday evenings, for the summer weeks.

Basic Level: Participants will learn the basic canoeing skills.

Intermediate and Advance Level: Participants will learn advance canoeing techniques and kayaking skills.

Senior Youth Level: Participants are introduced to sailing.

No previous experience required! Younger participants always start at the Basic Level. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff can place youth 12 and over in the appropriate section depending on their skill level and interest.

What you need:

Participants are required to provide their own proper fitting PFD. The only required uniform for participants is a Brownsea Base T-Shirt. Which can be purchased at the beginning of the summer program.
