Brownsea Base, Peterborough Water Programs for Scouts

Brownsea Base is a water skills training program teaching Canoeing (Paddle Canada), Kayaking & Sailing skills. We are located at Rogers Cove in Peterborough, and run Tuesday & Thursday evenings from June 20 to Aug.15. The Program is open to ALL youth 11 years & up, in the General Public, Scouting or Guiding. We are staffed by dedicated local volunteer Scout Leaders.

Please come out to our Open House at our Rogers Cove Boathouse any one evening May 30, 31 or June 1 between 6-8PM!

Our Program includes basic watercraft skills for each type, safety such as canoe-over-canoe rescues, navigation, and lightweight camping. All of this is instilled under the concept of 'Fun while Learning'!

Brownsea Base has Basic Canoeing, Advanced Canoeing & Kayaking, and Sailing Sections. Each Section is supplemented by one or two weekend trips! An example is the Basic Canoeing Trip to Crab Lake in the Kawartha Highlands Park -- this is a one night trip with 1 portage each way. The Youth hone their acquired skills while enjoying the waterways of Southern Ontario. Wildlife to be seen includes everything from chipmunks to deer, and even carnivourous plants! A highlight of this trip is the safe and fun jumping cliff, and a short hike with a panoramic view!
