The Klondike Derby

January 18 – 20, 2019 @ Langley Park Scout Reserve, Peterborough
What is a Klondike Derby? A Klondike Derby takes place during the winter months and is based on the heritage of the Klondike Gold Rush. Klondike derbies have been run since 1949 in the US and Canada. The event consists of several stations where patrols must test their Scoutcraft skills and their leadership abilities, earning points towards a total score. Awards will be given out for top Scout and top Venturer patrol. While specific details will be forthcoming, Scouts (or Venturer) patrols will have a minimum of three and maximum of seven youth. Those without the required numbers can join up with others. We will have one extra sled available if needed so no youth that wants to participate will be left out. The patrol must transport their gear on a homemade sled pulled by the Scouts. Each patrol must come with a sled and a set list of gear. Construction plans can be found online and full gear list will be sent out shortly. You may camp overnight or arrive for the day on the Saturday. For those camping Saturday night we will have a campfire and there will be a Scouts’ Own on Sunday morning. Cost will be $15 per youth which will include an event crest. There is no charge for Scouters.
Please email Scouter Deryck if you plan on attending this event by November 30, 2019 at Please indicate whether you can assist in the running of this event.
